Slim Multimedia Powerhouse Offers Great Efficiency

New N82J from ASUS shows a true fusion of unabridged power features, breathtaking multimedia performance and stylish energy management can go hand in hand in one neat package.

Taipei, Taiwan, March 30, 2010 – Further fine tuning the concept of a full-fledged multimedia notebook, ASUS has released the new N82J with a complete range of features that make it an ideal choice for consumers on the look for a powerful machine to do their media content, productivity and entertainment justice.
The N82J comes with the sheer computing prowess of new Intel® Core™ processors and NVIDIA® GeForce® GT335M GPU, while memory can go up to a whopping 8GB. It fields the new, super-fast USB 3.0 for ultra-expedient data transfer speeds, as well as a range of exclusive video and audio enhancements and the energy efficient Super Hybrid Engine. These put the new notebook firmly in the performance bracket for every use and application.
Audio Visual Bliss
The prime directive for high-end N Series notebooks such as the N82J is multimedia performance. On top of powerful hardware, it fields an extensive list of refinements that bring out the best in entertainment and gaming.
The innovative ASUS SonicMaster completely overhauls audio on a notebook PC with custom-built Altec Lansing speakers and thorough software processing of all sound output, resulting in the kind of surround fidelity consumers typically expect from full-price and full-size audio systems. Spectacular vocals, extra wide range and spot-on reproduction take sonic enjoyment to a whole new level.
Complementing this, the N82J delivers amazing visuals with the help of ASUS Video Magic, a video amplification suite that accelerates frame rates up to 72FPS, thus eliminating blur. It also upscales DVD content to 1080p HD in real time and with no system strain. The related ASUS Splendid Technology refines image quality further, bringing out the most vivid colors and accurate contrast and brightness ratios available. Both work together with advanced NVIDIA® CUDA GPU computing to boost overall performance and reduce system power demands.
N82J notebooks also come with the ASUS zero-bright-dot guarantee, which underlines the company's grueling quality checks for all LCD panels it makes and ships.
Fast Connections
USB 3.0 is included on all N Series notebooks from ASUS, and the N82J is no exception. Users benefit from super-fast file transfers and data backup, at up to ten times the speed of USB 2.0. The implications are clear – in an age of ever-larger HD content, the need for speedier data connectivity goes without saying. USB 3.0 makes it possible to transfer a typical MP3 song in just 0.01 seconds*, while an entire 25GB Blu-ray disc takes only 70 seconds. Thus, the N82J accommodates users in empowering their lifestyles and work environments.
Keeping It Compact
Despite all its bountiful features and superlative performance, the N82J is no back breaker, and retains a slim and stylish pose. It's a light and slender machine that can be easily carried and moved around to meet the very mobile demands of contemporary users.
N82J retains the ASUS focus on eye-catching design with its luscious patterned cover and tactile light alloy exterior. The quality feel of this notebook reaches to the multi-touch pad and palm rests, which are generously-sized for superior comfort.
Responsible Power
Several energy-conserving features have been fully implemented on the new N82J to ensure its environmentally-savvy stance and long battery life. The exclusive Super Hybrid Engine from ASUS manages system resources to ensure just the right amount of power is consumed based on tasks and applications carried out. This results in power savings and lower carbon emissions—good for users, good for the planet.
NVIDIA® Optimus™ technology also contributes to the N82J's harmonious mix of power and green values. This intelligent graphics manager switches between the dedicated GeForce GT335M GPU and integrated graphics depending on the intensity of visuals being rendered at any given time. For high-end gaming and image processing, the GPU goes on. For normal tasks with no demanding visuals, integrated graphics are used. This leads to significant power savings and a much longer battery life.
N82J is another cutting-edge all rounder from ASUS that offers a bevy of features to users who like their multimedia fast and stylish—yet compact and eco-friendly.

ASUS SonicMaster Composes New Notebook Audio Standard

With co-development featuring input from Bang & Olufsen ICEpower®, ASUS delivers powerhouse notebooks that meet the needs of discerning consumers with the most advanced sound and multimedia solutions ever offered on portable PCs.
Contemporary users require a diverse range of applications, from precision productivity to high definition entertainment and relentless gaming action. Expectations run high and the traditionally compromised nature of notebook audio performance simply doesn’t suffice—this has led to the development of the N Series from ASUS, which once again leads in revolutionizing the multi-role nature of notebooks with professional grade multimedia and hardware.

Mastering Audio

Superlative sound performance comes in as a prime example of N Series multimedia leadership. Realizing that people spend a good third of their day interacting with multimedia devices, and that at the same time notebooks have traditionally fallen short in the audio department, ASUS decided to focus on developing natural, impactful sound when crafting the N Series. The result is SonicMaster, a new standard in notebook audio, offering the best ever sonic performance on a portable PC.
SonicMaster has gained from the expertise of both a dedicated group of audio professionals assembled by the ASUS Golden Ear Team and the respected experience garnered by Bang & Olufsen ICEpower®. SonicMaster is not a one-off technological effort, nor a marketing ploy. It presents a new professional audio certification program, with notebooks that meet the standard marked as SonicMaster compliant, guaranteeing consumers breathtaking experiences in sound. It consists of upgraded hardware in the form of larger speaker chambers and stronger amplifiers to render sound in unmatched fidelity. In addition, SonicMaster incorporates extensive software equalization to ensure a wide range of sound reproduction and full-liveness vocals, where previous generations of notebooks settled for muddy human voices and tinny reproduction.
The ASUS N Series acts as the debut and showpiece flagship platform for SonicMaster excellence.

Six Degrees of Sonic Leadership

SonicMaster revamps notebook sound standards by addressing a full spectrum of issues that have persisted in portable PCs for years. While others settle for middling results and tinny audio, SonicMaster delivers crystal clear sound, where every nuance comes across fully. Particularly, bass and deep note performance equal that of dedicated audio systems, delivering rich, impressive output.
Engineers have worked hard to ensure SonicMaster’s frequency leaves nothing out, contributing to the liveness of sound. With complete reproduction of audio that remains 100% faithful to the source, listeners never feel shortchanged with inadequate, half-hearted audio. This stems from the overall power upgrade SonicMaster hardware represents. Not only are the speakers and resonance chambers bigger, the amplifier gets much higher voltage than the norm in notebooks, giving it the room to create impactful sound. This has proved critical in another aspect the Golden Ear continues to focus on—vocals. While historically listening to songs on a notebook PC meant barely intelligible voice, SonicMaster elevates this aspect to the level of a concert hall or live show, culminating in lifelike surround that’s amazing in music as it is spectacular in gaming, movies and even communications.

Comprehensive Power

N Series notebooks from ASUS do not stop at revolutionizing sound performance, they represent a complete range of hardware innovations. All new for 2010 Intel Core processors deliver the power required for smooth computing, while superfast USB 3.0 data transfer and backup give users the tools to manage large multimedia libraries and much more. The experience revolves around fast, productive technology that enables great enjoyment and creativity, with the latest generation of ASUS Video Magic image enhancement optimizing HD video content for greater viewing pleasure.
ASUS new N Series multimedia notebooks with SonicMaster and an array of innovative technologies are available in several form factors—the 14.0” N43, 15.6” N53 and 17.3” N73, as well as the top of the line 18.4” NX90.

ASUS NX90 Multimedia Notebook — A Duet of Style and Sonority

Delivering the Pinnacle of Multimedia Enjoyment and Contemporary Design

The new 18.4" ASUS NX90 multimedia notebook revisits the forgotten aspects of portable PC design, injecting excitement and a sense of premium luxury to a product treated by other manufacturers as a mere commodity. The NX90, crafted with input from renowned designer David Lewis and technology co-development with Bang & Olufsen ICEpower®, comes in as a notebook that's on a par with full surround systems in terms of audio quality through the ASUS SonicMaster sound standard. It is further a style icon, meant to take centerstage at the home and add a touch of class to any décor.

Birth of an Icon

The NX90's unique form and advanced technology have benefitted from the experience of award winning designer David Lewis, who took part in developing the new multimedia notebook. Mr. Lewis' studio is known to design buffs and audiophiles the world over as one of the main forces behind the hallmark Bang & Olufsen look. Thus, eye-catching multimedia gear has been a staple of his studio for many years.
With the NX90, ASUS designers and Mr. Lewis have sought to change the perception that users have of notebooks, taking them from mundane tools to symbols of craftsmanship and multimedia excellence.
"What we were going for was a piece of design and art that people could place in the center of their home and take great joy in its appearance. To me, it's not just a machine, the objective was to create a style to challenge the way people regard notebooks", said David Lewis when speaking of the NX90.

Breakthrough in Notebook Design

NX90 marks a departure from conventional notebooks, bringing PCs to the side of interior design. The polished aluminum body reflects room ambience, adding to the atmosphere of any environment and therefore fitting in unobtrusively. Not only that, the large size and unique looks spruce up any location, something the spectacular audio quality takes even further.
By placing speakers outside the chassis and alongside the screen, designers have ensured sound wraps around users and their surroundings. Meanwhile, the interface itself has been refreshed, with dual touchpads that enable true two-handed usability, creating a virtual mouse through the addition of a second touch surface. The oversized palm rests provide ample room for comfort even during prolonged sessions, one of the perks of a true multimedia desktop replacement portable PC.

New Standards—Audio as It's Meant to be Enjoyed

The new SonicMaster sound standard stands as one of the key attractions of the NX90. Developed by the ASUS Golden Ear team through significant cooperation with Bang & Olufsen ICEpower®, SonicMaster represents a new milestone in PC audio by which all sound performance on computers can be judged. It guarantees the best quality audio available to users, bringing PCs to the level of dedicated high fidelity surround systems.
SonicMaster comprises harmonized hardware and software tuning, optimized to render high definition surround audio that's true to life and wider in range than ever experience on a notebook. The exacting standards implemented in SonicMaster guarantee crystal clear reproduction, deeper and richer bass, and an overall power upgrade that's sure to amaze anyone listening in for the first time. Particular emphasis has been placed on liveness, or recreating audio in a lifelike fashion. This results in vocals and overall feel very much akin to a live concert, miles ahead of the muddy, muted and tinny sound people have come to expect from notebooks.
The amazing results attained by SonicMaster serve to augment not only music playback, but also gaming, movies and voice communication.

Designed for the Sound Lover

Due to its focus on multimedia, the NX90 also ships with the Rotation Desktop interface, which makes the most of the twin touchpads mentioned earlier. This unique technology ups the multimedia control ante with new gesture input that's intuitive for accessing and making the most of music and video content on the fly with two handed DJ-like controls. Photo zoom, web page and document scrolling are also a breeze with the Rotation Desktop.

ASUS Launching Updated B3 Revision Motherboards

Strong showing by exclusive ASUS features such as DIGI+ VRM, EFI BIOS and BT GO! marks the arrival of updated P67-based motherboards. Guaranteeing quality and unmatched performance, these products directly cater to consumer demand and community feedback, offering the ideal platform for new Intel® technology.

Setting a new standard of digital power design

ASUS P67-based motherboards have received much acclaim and praise since their launch, and B3 revision models are set to continue this trend. Consumers and technology media have welcomed the innovations the series has to offer. One of the biggest attractions has been the second-generation Dual Intelligent Processors 2 architecture, reinforced with DIGI+ VRM digital power controls, which incorporate digital voltage regulation to eliminate the latency associated with analog-to-digital power conversion. This gives users an unprecedented amount of control over the fine-tuning of their PC with the ease of a natively digital design. Overclocking becomes effortless, offering entry-level users the option of Auto Tuning, made available through a software interface and a simple onboard switch. Advanced in-depth overclocking modes expand the range of parameters users can modify. Like all ASUS innovation, DIGI+ VRM system tuning flows from consumer feedback and expectations, therefore meeting actual user needs.

User-friendly, intuitive EFI BIOS innovation

The exclusive ASUS EFI BIOS provides users with the world’s first intuitive graphical interface for control over both basic and advanced BIOS settings with mouse input. Changing system settings becomes more accessible and much easier than with traditional text-based BIOS versions, as consumers can choose between different levels of tuning, from EZ Mode for basic settings to complete system supervision via Advanced Mode.

Bluetooth enhanced and expanded for seamless digital experiences

BT GO! offers another ASUS exclusive feature, combining seven Bluetooth modes in one interface. With consumers operating more and more wireless devices and requiring seamless integration via PC, ASUS has crafted BT GO! to meet this demand right on the motherboard, placing it at the heart of the system ― no additional adapters required. All B3 revision models ship with BT GO!

First ever whole-motherboard thermal protection

The ASUS TUF SABERTOOTH P67 motherboard was created to offer a new generation of durability and reliability for users who put their machines through their paces, debuting the industry’s first thermal protection for the entire motherboard ― the exclusive ASUS Thermal Armor. It quickly became a favorite among both media and power users. Feedback from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, with reviewers and consumers reporting noticeable gains in performance, overclocking and stability thanks to the Thermal Armor, which offers a shield to protect against heat. The design also uses an internal shunt for better airflow, improved cooling and greater stability. Media reviews confirmed this, measuring drops in temperatures due to the protection offered by the Thermal Armor. ASUS has further developed the exclusive 12-sensor Thermal Radar to monitor actual temperatures and help with fan speed adjustments. Users and media have realized the benefits of this technology, commenting on its ease of use and flexibility in pursuing cooler, more stable systems.

Stepping up to B3 guaranteed quality

On 31 January 2011, Intel® announced that it had detected a design error in its new P67 chipset as part of routine quality checks. In accordance with its own strict quality assurance procedures and deep commitment to customer satisfaction, ASUS immediately suspended the shipment of all affected products across its distribution and retail channels. The company began shipping new and updated B3 revision Intel® 6 series-based motherboards in late February. ASUS also announced a comprehensive refund or replacement program for all affected products. As Intel® indicated the design error only occurs with certain SATA 3Gb/s ports, ASUS also created an online tutorial to help customers clearly identify all unaffected SATA 6Gb/s ports for each relevant product. This information can be found at http://event.asus.com/2011/mb/Identify_unaffected_SATA_port/.
Updated versions retain all product specifications, performance and exclusive features. Users are assured complete compatibility across all versions.
